Manzanillo Sets New Record with 3.59 Million TEUs Moved in 2024
The Port of Manzanillo has achieved a milestone in 2024, handling a total of 3.59 million TEUs during the first eleven months of the year, setting a new historic record in commercial cargo movement. This result represents a 6.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
Key Achievements in 2024
The Administration of the National Port System (Asipona) Manzanillo, under the Ministry of the Navy, reported the following breakdown:
- 44% of the cargo moved was imports, totaling 1.56 million TEUs (14% higher than in 2023).
- 41% of the cargo consisted of exports, totaling 1.48 million TEUs (12% more than in 2023).
- 15% of the cargo was transshipment, totaling 891,000 TEUs (13% increase from 2023).
Record-Breaking Cargo Movement
This year, the port recorded the four highest months of cargo movement in its history, which were:
- October
- March
- November
- August
Arrival of the Largest Vessels
A significant milestone was the arrival of three of the largest vessels ever to dock in Mexican ports:
- The APL Fullerton (398 meters long)
- The CMA CGM Alexander von Humboldt (396 meters long)
- The CMA CGM Marco Polo (396 meters long)
Sustainability and Innovation
Manzanillo is also leading the way in sustainable practices with the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the vessels arriving at the port, helping to reduce the carbon footprint of maritime transport and aligning with global sustainability goals.
