Mexico Strengthens Its Logistics with 179,000 km of Roads
By the end of 2024, Mexico has consolidated its road infrastructure with a total of 179,535.53 kilometers of roads, strategically positioning itself as a key hub in logistics and international trade in Latin America. The country’s vast network includes 11,173.98 km of toll roads and 168,361.55 km of free roads, all contributing to the strengthening of Mexico’s connectivity.
The National Road Network (RNC) report also highlights Mexico’s comprehensive infrastructure, which includes 184 ports, 158 airports, and 51 railway stations, reinforcing its role in global trade logistics.
Mexico’s Strategic Infrastructure for Global Trade
In addition to its road system, Mexico’s infrastructure includes 18,054 bridges, 249 tunnels, and over 1,000 toll booths, all enhancing road safety and ensuring smooth transport across the country. The robust road network also includes 527,319 km of rural roads and 203,242 km of urban roads.
Mexico’s Role in International Trade
Mexico’s strategic position is further enhanced by its 184 ports, divided into sheltered, industrial, naval, and tourist categories, along with 32 multimodal cargo terminals that are essential for handling international trade efficiently. This extensive infrastructure not only facilitates trade but also positions Mexico as a key player in the logistics sector.

The development of Mexico’s logistics and transportation infrastructure supports a thriving cargo and logistics market, valued at $136.11 billion in 2024. Projections indicate this market will grow to $171.40 billion by 2029, underscoring Mexico’s growing importance as a global logistics center.
