With Significant Investments, Manzanillo Will Become the Development Hub of Western Mexico

To address the challenges posed by nearshoring amid the growing demand for maritime foreign trade in the country, the Summit ASTOM 2024 was held in Manzanillo, organized by the Association of Terminals and Operators of Manzanillo.
Infrastructure Growth and Maritime Trade Developments
The event brought together major companies involved in imports and exports at the Colima port, as well as shipping lines and terminals. Presentations highlighted infrastructure modernization projects and progress, reinforcing Manzanillo’s role as Mexico’s main gateway for goods from Asia and the third most important port in Latin America.

Key Developments at Manzanillo
Manzanillo handles 17,000 containers per day, managing 40% of the country’s maritime imports. Recent developments include:
- Implementation of the early modulation system and new scanners for Customs cargo inspections.
- Extended operating hours: 24/7 for exports; Monday to Friday from 6 AM to 9 PM, and Saturdays from 6 AM to 4 PM for imports.
- The new elevated northern access, which will help alleviate truck traffic congestion.
