Mexican Government Promotes Port Modernization

The Government of Mexico, through the Secretariat of the Navy, announced during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning conference a federal investment of 32.875 billion pesos for the modernization and expansion of six strategic ports: Ensenada, Manzanillo and Nuevo Manzanillo, Lázaro Cárdenas, Acapulco, Veracruz, and Progreso.
Strategic Investments in Major Ports
These investments aim to enhance Mexico’s port infrastructure, boosting trade efficiency and economic growth. Highlights include:
Port of Ensenada
- Expansion of the dock from 450 to 550 meters.
- Construction of the Maritime Traffic Control Center.
- 85% increase in customs revenue expected.
Port of Manzanillo
- Investment of 13.598 billion pesos.
- Construction of container yards, docks, and fishing basins.
- 120% increase in customs revenue projected.

Port of Lázaro Cárdenas
- Capacity expansion to handle 8.2 million TEUs.
- Urban restructuring in El Naranjito and Zacatula.
- 85% increase in customs revenue anticipated.
Other Key Ports
Investments will also enhance Acapulco, Veracruz, and Progreso, significantly increasing trade revenue and port efficiency.
