Manzanillo Moves 3.59 Million TEUs from January to November 2024
The Port of Manzanillo has achieved a historic milestone in commercial cargo movement, handling a total of 3.59 million TEUs in the first eleven months of 2024. This marks a 6.1% increase compared to the same period last year, as reported by the National Port System Administration (Asipona) Manzanillo, part of the Secretariat of the Navy.
Key Statistics on Cargo Movement
Of the total cargo handled, 44% corresponded to imports, 41% to exports, and 15% to transshipment. Imports saw a significant rise of nearly 14%, totaling 1.562 million TEUs, while exports grew by 12%, reaching 1.482 million TEUs.
Breakdown by Cargo Type
Containerized cargo accounted for 73% of the total, with an annual increase of 5%. General breakbulk cargo represented 14%, mineral bulk cargo 10%, and agricultural bulk cargo 3%.
Record-Breaking Months and Largest Ships
The port recorded its highest-ever cargo movement in October, March, November, and August. Additionally, it received the largest ships ever to dock in Mexico, including the APL Fullerton (398 meters) and the CMA CGM Alexander von Humboldt and Marco Polo (396 meters each).
