Maritime Imports and Exports Grow in Mexico

Port with containers and ships in action

During the first months of 2025, Mexico’s maritime trade continues to experience notable growth, with the Port of Manzanillo standing out. In the first two months of 2025, imports at Manzanillo grew by 8.6%, while exports increased by 8.2%. This rise is attributed to higher demand for goods that need to be transported by sea. The Port of Manzanillo, considered the country’s main commercial port, remains key for exports and regional economic development.

Performance of the Veracruz and Altamira Ports

The Port of Veracruz and the Port of Altamira have also played important roles in the growth of maritime trade in Mexico. However, they have experienced slight declines in performance, reflecting challenges such as competition with other ports in the region and fluctuations in the global market.

Infrastructure and Logistics Investments

This growth is also due to investments in infrastructure at these ports and improvements in logistics processes. Investments to increase efficiency, reduce loading and unloading times, and improve security in goods transportation are essential to keep Mexico competitive in global trade.

A Sign of Economic Recovery

This growth can also be seen as a sign of economic recovery following the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating that Mexico is strengthening its position in international trade.
