The long-anticipated Mexico City–Querétaro intercity train has officially begun construction. The project, backed by a total investment of MX$167 billion, is scheduled to be completed within two and a half years. The new rail line aims to boost regional logistics and passenger connectivity between central Mexico’s most important cities.
High-Speed Rail to Strengthen Central Mexico’s Infrastructure
During the groundbreaking ceremony, President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of this strategic infrastructure. The train is expected to reduce travel time between Mexico City and Querétaro to just a couple of hours, enhancing economic and social integration across the Bajío corridor.
Investment to Spur Economic Growth and Job Creation
In addition to improving mobility, the project is projected to create thousands of jobs and stimulate regional development. Authorities estimate that the rail line will not only serve passengers but will also support logistics efficiency and cargo movement across central Mexico.
