The Central Northern Airport Group (OMA), under the leadership of Ricardo Due\u00f1as, has reported an impressive 9.9% increase in passenger traffic for January 2025 compared to the previous year. This increase reflects the overall recovery and growth of the air sector in Mexico, driven by higher demand in both domestic and international travel.<\/p>

January 2025 Passenger Traffic Performance<\/h2>

OMA’s 13 airports collectively saw an increase in passenger traffic, reaching 2,178,507 passengers, up from 1,982,488 in January 2024. Monterrey International Airport led the charge with a 15.6% rise in passenger traffic, from 963,752 in January 2024 to 1,113,657 in January 2025.<\/p>

Factors Behind the Growth<\/h2>

The growth in passenger numbers is attributed to a combination of factors. According to Grupo Financiero Monex, both domestic and international traffic showed strong increases of 7.3% and 24.0%, respectively. The rise in leisure, family, and business travel worldwide, as well as the significant impact of nearshoring in Mexico\u2014particularly in the northern regions\u2014have been key contributors to this surge.<\/p>

Regional Highlights and Challenges<\/h2>

While Monterrey’s traffic surged by 37.5% internationally, the situation was mixed on the domestic front. Domestic traffic in Monterrey saw an 11.5% increase, but other key airports like Chihuahua and Mazatl\u00e1n reported declines due to a reduced availability of seats, down 5.2% and 0.8%, respectively.<\/p>

Despite challenges in some regions, OMA continues to show strong performance, with Monterrey International Airport playing a central role in the overall growth. In 2025, OMA will focus on maintaining operational flow, capitalizing on the nearshoring trend, and improving aircraft inspections and preventive maintenance processes to ensure sustained growth.<\/p>
